【Fo Guang Shan】佛光山 Also known as the mountain of Buddha light, is the centre of Buddhism in southern Taiwan. 【Tobacco Cultivation】種植菸草 Ever since theJapanese occupation period, Meinung has been important for its tobaccoproduction. In 1938, the Japanese built 162 tobacco curing barns, and began theplanned development of tobacco cultivation.
【PotteryStudio】陶藝工作室
Zhong Jianzhi, the child of a Meinung farmer, rebuilt an abandonedcuring barn as a pottery studio. Another unused curing barn was made into arecording studio by a local band. Local painters are also using their pens andbrushes to record the stories of the Meinung tobacco curing barns.
Local literature andhistory groups planto renovate curing barns into hostels, coffee shops, artstudios or exhibitionhalls, to help tourism in ruralvillages. The younger generation of Meinung has revitalized the old tobacco curingbarns that have been the companions oftheir families for 60 years. They havebeen turned into art objects asold-style pottery studios, or high-techrecording studios, or tourist attractions.
【Hakka Tea (Lei Cha)】客家擂茶
"Lei cha", a beverage made by grinding tea leaves along with other herbs, grains, nuts, and so on, is freshment served by Hakka people to their guests, and is rich with the hardworking spirit and practical knowledge of the Hakka.

In the days when salt was controlled by the Japanese government, the century-old house located near Anping Old Street served as an office for storage, selling, and inspection of salt. In 2010, the house listed as a historical site in Tainan was renovated and open to the public as a place combining sightseeing and cultural history. Its Chinese name Xiyou Chuzhangsuo is derived from Japanese. 【Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium 】國立海洋生物博物館
A mileage goes beyond century symbolizing the abundance and beauty of life, which nourishes the culture of Taiwan with the ocean…In 1991, the preparatory office of the National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium(NMMBA) was formally established, the hard and tough scheming and construction work were then begun…., the opening of the Waters of Taiwan was finally finished on February 25th, 2000 after numerous efforts and frustrations.The NMMBA introduced the Waters of the World covering the global waters and ancient ocean with the method of combining the aquarium and all digital images following the openings of the Waters of Taiwan and the Coral Kingdom Pavilion. All progresses were finished at the end of 2007, which made the NMMBA the best museum worldwide.
【Taroko Park Kaohsiung】 大魯閣草衙道
The first shopping center and sports-themed amusement park hybrid kicked off in Kaohsiung. Located downtown in Kaohsiung City and accessible via Kaohsiung International Airport and the metro system in Kaohsiung, Taroko Park is a 26,400 ping (87,120 square meter) venue that combines recreation, shopping, restaurants and sports facilities all in one location.
